Casely Hayford
The initial press coverage of BLM has died down but we need to keep the momentum going, so for todays recommendation we have Casely Hayford the black owned brand based in London.⠀
⠀
This father and son duo are definitive powerhouse of the London fashion scene. Both graduates of Saint Martins, Joe started his first label in 1983. ⠀
⠀
His first collections were made from recycled WWII army tents which were taken apart and then cut into jackets, trousers, skirts and tops. After construction, these garments would be industrially washed creating a worn and distressed appearance. ⠀
⠀
The sustainable designer before sustainability was even considered relevant!... which leads into the current day label, like our timeless series their garments are not pushed as sustainable but are made with such quality that they will actually last you a lifetime, this, and we cannot state enough, is one of the most sustainable things you can do, buy something you will only buy once and nothing goes to landfill.⠀
⠀
Their collections are timeless and made with the best quality fabrics, offering both a ready to wear collection and a bespoke service. If you can you should check out their beautiful store on Chiltern Street.⠀
⠀
Very sadly Joe passed away last year after a three year battle with cancer. With such a massive career from being the first black creative director of Gieves and Hawkes to clothing some of the biggest names out there, (Lou Reed, Liam Gallagher, Jarvis Cocker to name a few), he will be sadly missed and never forgotten. The company is now in the hands of the insanely talented Charlie who im sure will keep this brand growing to new unknown heights.⠀
