omdo STUDIOS |timeless| - Dickies 874 Trouser

The Dickies 874 Original Trouser is so engrained in contemporary culture and feels so relevant that it is hard to believe that it was designed almost 55 years ago. Originally designed for the post war era factory boom, a pant that was engineered to be practically indestructible.

It has gone through several rebirths within sub sects of culture, from the Socal gangs in the eighties, the resurgence of workwear obsession in fashion circles of Tokyo in the twenty first century and has gained cult status within the skateboard scene from the late nineties right up to today.

What the dickies pant exemplifies and what we are looking to shine a light on in this series is how you should be thinking about purchases, everything isn't so black and white when it comes to sustainability. Rather than buying a fast fashion garment that uses a sustainable fabric but you might only get a few wears out of, it is actually much more sustainable to buy something that is timeless in their style but might not be as sustainable in their fabric, so you could still be wearing it in 20 years rather then one that you will only get a few wears out of.

Remember, Where you can buy second hand, but if you have to buy new think are you going to have a relationship with this piece for 10 years, if you don't, how will I make sure it doesn't end up in the landfill? Is the fabric recycled/organic/regenerative? If you don't have answers to these questions then maybe you should be reconsidering the purchase.

We would love to hear your thoughts on this topic and what designs do you consider timeless? Let us know in the comments below.
