Aro Archive - I'll Love You 'Till The End

We have talked about the wonderful Aro Archive before, the incredible London store well they had an exhibition on Saturday(socially distanced of course) and it was beautiful both in concept and execution.⠀

It was work made over the past two years in collaboration with photographers @amygwatkin@hendrik.schneider and @sasakiavins. Beginning with pieces that, whether damaged beyond repair or aged to the point of falling apart, have been deemed at the end of their lifespan and set for disposal, each project saw the pieces given one final moment in the spotlight; a photographic swan song suspending that moment in time.⠀

Hendrik Schneider’s series shows almost abstract documentation of details from an all-white summer dinner hosted by the Aro & Aro Archive team in July 2019, where a colour-drenched banquet by chef @fabienspagnolo stained shirts by Yohji Yamamoto and others. ⠀

Amy Gwatkin’s series captured in close detail the microscopic ecosystem living on the surface of an outfit by Issey Miyake. Captured over a month, the time-lapse series documents⠀
the subtle movements of the growing fungus as it breathes life below a plastic encasing.⠀

Sasakiavins project took pieces back into the world — both urban and natural — and photographed them undergoing elemental transformations, from an Issey Miyake paper two-piece hung out and set alight at twilight to pieces carted halfway across the world and captured in a Moroccan desert landscape.⠀

The exhibition runs for a month and will sit alongside a selection of rare archival pieces for sale that sit in dialogue with the images, before a September print sale that sees proceeds going to a selection of local charities.⠀

Stop down if you can or let us know what you think in the comments below.⠀
